Where we are today > where we were a year ago

I often look back in chunks of time because it is hard to recognise progress when we look too closely. Day-to-day can feel stagnant, challenging and often frustrating. We can get stuck in the small details and literally fail to see the bigger picture.

To get out of this it helps to place yourself in the past and remember where you were. Sometimes just visualising it is enough. Other times we can be triggered by logged memories, photos, blog posts, news or perhaps personal journey entries.

Today I was thinking back to where MoT was a year ago and where it is now. I'll spare the details because that's not the point. The key thing is that it felt good. I could easily see the change, progress and growth we had achieved. I reflected on how hard it had been and then quickly ensured it stayed a positive thing by logging it as a win in our Slack.

Slack post: where we are today > where we were a year ago

I looked back a year because that felt relevant for where my head was at, but this same principle applies to looking back in bigger chunks of time. I often do it in multiples of 5 years. Where was I 5, 10, 15 or 20 years ago?

I do this to give myself some grace my natural tendency is to give myself a hard time. I'm working on it.

I post spur of the moment thoughts on Bluesky and then sometimes expand on them here.

MoT: where we are today > where we were a year ago I often look back in chunks of time because it is hard to recognise progress when we look too closely. Today I think back to where MoT was a year ago and where it is now. We have come a long way, are doing things differently and sneaking fun in!
