Over the holidays I have been reading The Idler 42: Smash the System. It has a series of essays that really make you ‘think’.
One talks about Road Witch – which is about people reclaiming streets by calming traffic in an unofficial way
Once upon a time people could feel more relaxed and safe on the streets. Now the cars own the road and people are forced to retreat into their houses.
It’s not just a safety problem, it also effects the local community spirit and cohesion.
The Road Witch site seems a bit dated, but is worth a browse through.
I especially liked what Ted called the ‘WTF’ experience – where having ‘things’ on display – like the Mega Bunny - just cause cars/drivers to slow down naturally.
